The story Nightjohn is a story about how bad slaves were treated back when slavery was still in the United States. Slaves were treated pretty much the same way as we treat animals but without whipping them and hurting them. In this story there were a couple of examples of how bad these slaves were treated. The first African was named Alice. She was a day dreamer and just would rather die then be on the plantation. She would always wonder to places she wasn't aloud and then one day the master let the dogs on her to make sure she wouldn't get away. Another person in this story was Jim. Jim got his legs ripped off by the dogs which the master let go to get him. Another slave was Pawley. He would sneak away to a girl from another plantation and spend time with her. He would always make sure he would come back home before bed checks so they didn't know he was gone. But one day he feel asleep and the owner was waiting for him. The owner then cut his ankle so he wouldn't run away anymore. This was a normal thing they would do if the slave had tried to fun away. The owner cut it wrong and he just let him bleed out and die. Back then slaves were treated really bad and it was really wrong how they were treated.

In the Chapter Mascot, It is the story of what got Malcolm X got started and what made him realize Blacks needed to do something and try to change how Blacks were treating. In Michigan Malcolm was a growing boy and he had dreams of being a lawyer. At this time before the Civil Rights Movement this dream was pretty much impossible but Malcolm just hates that. For years Malcolm tried and tried but one day a professor named Mr. Ostuiski told him he needed to be realistic and that there is no chance that he can be what he wants to be.Malcolm then realized it was wrong blacks were not treated the same as whites. He then decided he needed to change that. The professor kinda chanced Malcolm's life and how he would impact the Civil Rights Movement.

There were many similarities in the movie and the 2 stories we read. In the Great Debaters and NightJohn they both take place in the south were blacks were definitely not treated right at all. The other story took place in the north were blacks were treated a little better but not that good either. In the movie you saw how in the south white people didnt like blacks at all. When the family was driving down the street and the hog was in the road and the white people went crazy. They made the guy pay way more for the pig then what it was worth but blacks back then just had to do what the whites asked or they would be killed. In the movie and Mascot both took place right before the Civil Rights Movement where Nightjohn took place before the civil war which made blacks free. In all the Blacks had to learn how to live with white people and how bad they were treated.

:)

We have 2 days until Thanksgiving break. This Thanksgiving came really fast this year but it will be the best when Ohio State beats the crap out of Michigan in Columbus. Well it will be like 7 or 8 years in a row but i have kinda lost count now. Well i guess i need to talk about class now. We are now learning about human rights and reading stories about that. The first was Nightjohn which was just a story showing how slaves were treated then which wasn't right. The second story was a chapter about Malcolm X.

Here are some quotes from Malcolm x:

Be peaceful, be courteous, obey the law, respect everyone; but if someone puts his hand on you, send him to the cemetery.

I am for violence if non-violence means we continue postponing a solution to the American black man's problem just to avoid violence.

I believe in human beings, and that all human beings should be respected as such, regardless of their color.

I don't even call it violence when it's in self defense; I call it intelligence.

If you're not ready to die for it, put the word 'freedom' out of your vocabulary.

Now here are some from Martin Luther King JR.:

A man who won't die for something is not fit to live.

A right delayed is a right denied.

A riot is the language of the unheard.

Just by these quotes you can see the difference in the ideas of the 2. Both of them were trying to get Blacks equal Malcolm x used more of an aggressive approach where Martin Luther King Jr. was more peaceful. Two totally different mentalities fighting for the same thing.

This week in English we finished the play 12 angry men and watched the movie. The play kinda made we realize how different people are and how much their views are different. Overall the play was pretty good i guess. The movie helped me remember what juror was what and what they did. But the movie was kinda boring but at least it helped me a lot i think. Not much happened on the movie for the most part. On Wednesday we saw the To Kill a Mockingbird play at the school. I thought it was really good and the singing was the best part. I thought the actors were really good and did a great job. I thought it would be cool to put the movie trailer for the movie.

Since im talking about movies, I would really like to see the movie Unstoppable and Hereafter. I think Friday im going with my girlfriend to see hereafter But i really want to see Unstoppable too. Hereafter seems like it would be a little better and i kinda like those kinds of movies more.

Here is the hereafter trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDnHfQtH0zU

and Unstoppable: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JM-0Ywc7wNY

I dont really know what else to talk about so here is a poem:

THE GAME OF LOVE

I'm caught up in this game of love
and play the hand I'm dealt.
I thought that when I played this game
everything I had felt
would bring me joy and nothing else
but the emotional joy which is at stake
can sometimes lead the heart to bleed
and be replaced by pain and ache.

Love can lead to heavenly bliss
that takes you far beyond
anything in this crazy world
to which you can respond.
You throw caution to the winds.
You give it your all.
You defy the heartache.
You stand up tall.

You express your feelings.
You repress none.
You revel in what it does
and love what it's done.
For love won't ever be denied
and the game that you're in
is filled with emotions.
So you take it on the chin
and love.

Week 10

So we have been going to school for 10 weeks now and im kinda tired of it already. Week 10 of English was kinda boring but not to bad. We had our research papers were due on Monday which was a pretty easy project. It was kinda time consuming but not to bad. Then on Tuesday we started reading a play called 12 angry men or something like that. It is about the jury members talking about the fate of a 16 year old boy who is accused of stabbing his dad and killing him. When they take the first vote was 11 to 1 guilty. The one guy that said he was not guilty only said that because he wanted to talk about it more. They talked about it and we found out there are 2 witnesses that saw and heard the boy kill his dad. The women said that she saw the killing take place from her room across the L train tracks as it passed. The other witness said he heard the boy say im going to kill you and the a couple seconds later he heard a body hit the floor. The old man then went out of his room and saw the buy run away. The boy said he was at the movies but when the police asked him what movie and who was in it he didn't know. The one that voted not guilty starts questioning the evidence and gets some of the other people to switch. Near the end of the play the vote ends up being 8 to 3 not guilty. I think the kids is guilty because you cant put twists on the evidence that was said during the court case because the witnesses were under oath so they probably wont lie. So i think the kid is guilty and there is no way he isn't guilty.

Now i am going to talk about how Michigan has absolutely has no defense. You know your defense is terrible when you give up like 62 points against Illinois.I think Rich Rod should get fired just because he cant coach a defense. And what makes me laugh is when whenever a Michigan defender makes a tackle that act like they are the best ever when they are like the worst defense in the nation. They are even worse the Akron's defense i think haha. Well Alabama was given their second loss of the year which is kinda surprising to me and TCU killed Utah but who even knows if Utah is even good. I guess we will know when TCU gets to the National title if they make it and they get blown out or they keep it close and maybe win. Well thats it for this week.
